Teacher Appreciation Dinner - Tuesday, June 5th

Please help with our year-end thank you. This meal will serve over 80 of our favorite faculty and staff.

We need Food Donations and Volunteers for the event. PTO will provide drinks, cutlery, plates and tablecloths.

There are five courses: Main course, Salads,
Side Dishes, Cheese and Bread/Crackers, and Desserts.

Each class wilt be responsible for providing 3 (three trays) of the food course assigned, with enough of each to serve eight adults, (e.g. Mat 1-A will provide three main courses, each with enough to serve eight adults).  If you plan to bring a food dish, please let your room parents know.

Additional food donations are always welcome!

Food delivery—We will receive food during morning carpool (in the first floor cafeteria) and during
afternoon carpool.  Please mark your items “Teacher Dinner” and “refrigerate” (if needed) and remember to only use only disposable serving trays. You may drop them off anytime during and after school in reception or the first floor cafeteria.

Volunteers  We need a set up crew, a serving crew and a clean-up crew.

Setup:  Arrive at 3:30 p.m. and set up the decorations, buffet line, table decor, drinks, etc. (About 10 volunteers)

Powered by WordPress

Serving:  The actual meal lasts only an hour or so it will begin at 7:00. We pour drinks, fill/replace the empty serving dishes and help keep the room tidy. (About 10)

Clean up:   Please arrive at approximately 8 p.m. Since we will use plastic dishes and cutlery, no
dishes to wash! We will gather the serving dishes, leave them in the kitchen, and clear the tables. This
will take no more than an hour if we have enough volunteers! (The more volunteers the quicker we’re
finished!!!)

Thank you very much on behalf of the PTO and wonderful teachers, administration, and staff!

Please contact us to volunteer for set up, serving or clean up for the dinner:

PTAs find something’s missing: parents

The PTA was a popularity contest when Joy Weinstein’s youngest child started first grade two decades ago.

Women campaigned for coveted titles such as room mom, membership chairman and president.

“People would fight one another,” said Mrs. Weinstein, a Richardson mother of five. “It was like, ‘Yeah, we have 15 people who want that position.’ ”

Today’s Parent Teacher Association faces flagging numbers and a different kind of fight: Sell PTA to a new generation of parents who have little time or interest in a volunteer group known for cliques and cookie sales.

PTA membership has fallen 15 percent – almost 115,000 people – over the past decade in Texas, which traditionally has set trends for parent-teacher associations nationwide….more

A Global Test Gains Ground

The rigorous International Baccalaureate is rapidly growing in popularity in schools across the country.

By Pat Wingert
Newsweek

May 28, 2007 issue - When people conjure up an image of Hyannis, Mass., they think: wealthy seaside resort town, home of the Kennedy compound, and they assume the local public schools are filled with rich kids. But the people who reside in the fancy houses come only in the summer. The families who live here all year long tend to be ordinary, middle-class people, many of them in service industries. The test scores coming out of area schools tend to be pretty ordinary, too…more

Hi Everyone,

I can’t believe that the end of this school year is here.  What a year it has been.  I want to thank each and every one of you for all your time and efforts. Everyone on the 2006-2007 PTO Board, Tracy and Pierre; It has been a pleasure working with each and every one of you. I had many goals for the DIS PTO when we took office last summer. The most important thing I want to prove to the DIS community was, the PTO can be fun and everyone can walk away with a sense of accomplishment. I hope everyone have a wonderful summer and please once again consider giving the new PTO board the same wonderful support we received form each and every one of you in the coming school year.

Regards,

Albert Chia
